Με τον Michael B. Jordan και την Jessie Backley να φέρνουν "σπίτι" το χρυσό αγαλματίδιο του Α' Ανδρικού και Γυναικείου αντίστοιχα, η 98η τελετή απονομής των βραβείων Oscar, ήταν γεμάτη εκπλήξεις, ανατροπές στο 90', γέλιο, συγκινήσεις και αντιπολεμικά μηνύματα.
Καλύτερη ταινία αναδείχθηκε το "One Battle After Another" κερδίζοντας συνολικά 6 βραβεία, μεταξύ αυτών τα: Καλύτερης Ταινίας, Σκηνοθεσίας, Διασκευασμένου Σεναρίου και Μοντάζ. Το "Sinners", αν και είχε 16 υποψηφιότητες κατάφερε να κερδίσει τις 4, μεταξύ αυτών το βραβείο Α' Ανδρικού Ρόλου. Το "Marty Supreme", δεν κατάφερε να κερδίσει καμία από τις 9 υποψηφιότητες που είχε λάβει, με πολλούς να αναφέρουν πως αν ο Timothee Chalamet δεν είχε κάνει τις δηλώσεις περί όπερας και μπαλέτου, το βραβείο του Α' Ανδρικού Ρόλου θα ήταν δικό του.
Το καλύτερο τραγούδι κέρδισε το "Golden" από την ταινία "Pop Demon Hunters", σηματοδοτόντας το πρώτο KPop τραγούδι στην ιστορία των Oscars που κέρδισε το βραβείο.
Σημαντικές στιγμές της βραδιάς
Το πρώτο βραβείο της νέας κατηγορίας των βραβείων για το "Καλύτερο Κάστινγκ", εγκαινίασε η ελληνίδα Cassandra Kulukundis για την ταινία "One Battle After Another", η οποία στην ομίλια της ευχαρίστησε όλους τους συναδέλφους της που δεν κατάφεραν στον παρελθόν, όχι να πάρουν βραβείο, αλλά ούτε καν να δουν το όνομα τους στους τίτλους τέλους.
Για πρώτη φορά, μετά από μια δεκαετία, είχαμε ισοπαλία ανάμεσα σε δυο ταινίες μικρού μήκους. Οι ταινίες "The Singers" και "Two People Exchanging Saliva" κέρδισαν και οι δυο το βραβείο της Καλύτερης Ταινίας Μικρού Μήκους, παραλαμβάνοντας τα βραβεία με σειρά, σαν και κέρδισαν ξεχωριστά. Αυτή είναι η 7η φορά στα 98 χρόνια της διοργάνωσης που συνέβη ισοπαλία.
Τα αντιπολεμικά μηνύματα είχαν σημαντικό ρόλο στα βραβεία, με όσους δεν είχαν βήμα να φορούν κάποια καρφίτσα, ενώ άλλοι που ανέβηκαν στη σκηνή, μίλησαν για τον πόλεμο, τα όπλα, τα παιδιά, ενώ το μήνυμα "σταματήστε τον πόλεμο" ήχησε πιο δυνατα από ποτέ.
